--- title: VEGAS Pro canonical: https://saasranked.com/software/vegas-pro/ category: Video Editing Software points: 62 rank: 6 of 12 facts_checked: 2026-10-08 --- # VEGAS Pro Windows-only video editor sold as a subscription or a one-time licence, with multicam, scopes and built-in speech-to-text. 62 points out of 100. #6 of 12 video editors. Vendor: Boris FX. Website: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/vegas-pro/ - A one-time licence starts at $219.95; subscriptions start at $17.95 a month [1]. - A free 15-day trial gives full access to all features; there is no free version without a time limit [1]. - Multicam editing syncs and switches up to 32 cameras [2]. - Export lists run up to 8K [3], and the editor handles HDR10 and HLG [2][6]. - The system requirements list Windows 11 only; no macOS or Linux editor is listed [3]. Verdict: VEGAS Pro suits Windows editors who prefer to pay once. The one-time price of $219.95 works out well below the monthly subscription over three years [1]. It covers multicam, scopes, tracking, plug-ins and speech-to-text [2]. The catch: it runs on Windows 11 only, and the vendor's pages do not mention proxy editing or shared projects [2][4]. Best for: Windows editors who want a one-time licence and many built-in tools. Status: Vegas Pro sign-in now uses a Boris FX account, and the vendor site carries a Boris FX copyright line [2]. ## Points | Criterion | Line | Value | Points | Note | |---|---|---|---|---| | Systems | Other systems | None | 0/10 | System requirements list only Microsoft Windows 11 [3]. | | Price and licence | Free version | No | 0/8 | Only a 15-day free trial is offered, not a free version [1]. | | Price and licence | One-time licence | Yes | 6/6 | Pricing page offers subscription or perpetual options; refund policy covers perpetual licences [1][5]. | | Price and licence | Cheapest paid plan | $6.11/mo | 7/12 | Perpetual licence from $219.95 divided by 36 months; subscription starts at $17.95 a month [1]. | | Price and licence | Open-source apps | Not published | 0/4 | Not published on the vendor's features or pricing pages [1][2]. | | Output | 4K export | Yes | 4/4 | Import and export lists include 4K and 8K [3]. | | Output | 8K export | Yes | 3/3 | Import and export lists include 8K; 12 GB video memory recommended for 8K [3]. | | Output | 10-bit and HDR | Yes | 4/4 | Features page lists HDR10 and HLG grading [2]; a vendor article says it supports HDR10 and HLG and has HDR export presets [6]. | | Output | GPU-accelerated export | Yes | 5/5 | Requirements list NVIDIA, AMD and Intel GPUs; release notes add hardware decoding on NVIDIA Blackwell [3][4]. | | Editing tools | Multi-camera editing | Yes | 6/6 | Syncs and previews footage from up to 32 cameras and switches shots in real time [2]. | | Editing tools | Colour grading with scopes | Yes | 6/6 | Vectorscope, Waveform, Histogram and RGB Parade views [2]. | | Editing tools | Automatic captions | Yes | 5/5 | Offline speech-to-text and auto subtitles, marked subscription only; no extra charge listed [2][4]. | | Editing tools | Motion tracking | Yes | 4/4 | Built-in planar motion tracking attaches effects or objects to a tracked object [2]. | | Editing tools | Multitrack audio and noise reduction | Not published | 0/4 | Multitrack mixing is listed, but no audio noise-removal effect appears on the features page [2]. | | Editing tools | Proxy editing | Not published | 0/4 | Not published on the vendor's features or release-notes pages [2][4]. | | Editing tools | Third-party plug-ins | Yes | 4/4 | Supports OFX video plug-ins and VST2/VST3 audio plug-ins from third-party developers [2]. | | Editing tools | Shared projects | Not published | 0/3 | Not published on the vendor's features or release-notes pages [2][4]. | | Editing tools | Green-screen keying | Yes | 4/4 | Chroma Key effect removes a background colour and replaces it with other footage [2]. | | Editing tools | Video stabilisation | Yes | 4/4 | Built-in video stabilization steadies shaky footage [2]. | ## Plans | Plan | Price | Per month (USD) | |---|---|---| | Vegas Pro subscription | from $17.95/month [1] | $17.95 | | Vegas Pro perpetual licence | from $219.95 [1][2] | - | The pricing page's description gives only starting prices for subscription and perpetual options; the full edition price list loads from the Boris FX store [1]. ## Strengths - A one-time licence is sold, starting at $219.95 [1][5]. - Multicam, Waveform and Vectorscope views, planar tracking and chroma key are built in [2]. - Takes OFX video plug-ins and VST2/VST3 audio plug-ins from third parties [2]. - Speech-to-text and automatic subtitles work offline in the subscription [2][4]. ## Limits - Windows 11 is the only operating system the system requirements list [3]. - There is no free version; only a 15-day trial is offered [1]. - Offline speech-to-text is marked subscription only, so it is not in the one-time licence [4]. - The features page lists no audio noise-removal effect and no proxy editing [2]. ## Sources 1.
