--- title: FL Studio canonical: https://saasranked.com/software/fl-studio/ category: Digital Audio Workstations points: 63 rank: 5 of 8 facts_checked: 2026-10-08 --- # FL Studio Pattern-based music-making program sold once, with a promise of free updates for life. 63 points out of 100. #5 of 8 digital audio workstations. Vendor: Image-Line. Website: https://www.image-line.com/ - Four editions are sold for a one-time price: Fruity $99, Producer $179, Signature Bundle $269 and All Plugins $449 [1]. - Image-Line promises all future updates free, for every edition [1][2]. - Audio recording starts at the Producer edition; the $99 Fruity edition does not record audio [2]. - The free trial never expires, but it will not reopen saved .flp project files [3]. - It runs on Windows and macOS only, and loads VST2, VST3 and CLAP plugins in every edition [2][3]. Verdict: FL Studio suits producers who want a one-time price with free updates for life, and who need VST3 and CLAP plugin support [1][2]. Producer at $179 is the cheapest edition that records audio [1][2]. The catch: there is no Linux version, no free edition, and the manual pages do not describe take comping or MPE [3][5][9]. Best for: Producers who want to pay once and keep every future update. ## Points | Criterion | Line | Value | Points | Note | |---|---|---|---|---| | Recording and editing | 100 or more tracks | Yes | 10/10 | Manual: 500 insert mixer tracks, no audio-track cap stated; any clip goes on any Playlist track.
